Welcome to the Avon and Somerset Police and Crime Panel

The Police and Crime Panel is a statutory joint partnership that supports and scrutinises the decisions and activities of the Avon and Somerset Police and Crime Commissioner. On 6th May 2021, Mark Shelford was elected as the new Police and Crime Commissioner for a 3 year term. His role is to be the voice of the public and to hold the Chief Constable to account.

Made up of 14 councillors and 3 Independent Members, we represent the residents of the 5 local authorities in the force area – Bath and North East Somerset, Bristol, North Somerset, Somerset and South Gloucestershire.

The Panel operates within a statutory framework and specified rules that govern our practices and procedures. These can be found here Panel Operating Arrangements 280923

Details of where and when we meet and more about the work we undertake can be found by following the tabs at the top of this page.

The Panel must publish its statutory reports and the responses it receives from the Commissioner. You can find these reports and our scrutiny reviews here Publications.  The Panel’s most recent Annual Report can be found here  Annual-Report 2022~23
